In 1999 the idea of a partnership between Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) and the Catena family was born. The enthusiasm that arises around this idea is quickly reflected in a project: to produce a unique wine from the union of two cultures, French and Argentine, two strains, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon, and from the expert hand of both houses.
MoreThe Catena family, with 3 generations dedicated to winemaking, used their knowledge of Mendoza's high altitude terroirs and also their passion for the Malbec strain to find the best vineyards. For its part, DBR (Lafite) contributed its more than centennial handling of Cabernet Sauvignon, in addition to the art of producing great wines by assembling various strains.
The exchanges and selection work that began in 1999 gave birth to a first CARO harvest in 2000. The success of the first harvests led to the conception in 2003 of a new wine: Amancaya, which, like its predecessor, presents a subtle harmony between the Argentine identity and its Bordeaux style. On the other hand, Bodegas CARO wanted to pay tribute to the emblematic strain of Argentine viticulture through a 100% Malbec wine, Aruma, produced from the 2010 vintage.
Since the 2003 harvest, the Bodegas CARO facilities in the heart of Mendoza have welcomed the wines and have served as the cornerstone of the CARO project. The final touch of the project was the renovation of the historic building and the gardens, in the framework of which the winery was expanded and opened to allow access from the outside.
