In 2002 Santiago Santamaría and his wife Clarisa Aristi decided to move from their hometown to Lujan de Cuyo to start a family wine project. Attracted by the culture of Mendoza and the imposing landscapes, they dared to venture into this wonderful world of wine. Since then they are making internationally recognized wines. In 2010, together with Tom Conel, who shares the same passion, they founded Calamaco with the aim of making wines that reflect the identity of the terroir that saw them born and the affection of the people who create them.

More

Its wines are born in three of the best wine-growing areas in Argentina: Agrelo and Vistalba in Luján de Cuyo and La Consulta in Valle de Uco. There, on farms of small producers committed to sustainability, they work intensively throughout the year to achieve the highest quality of grapes used to make their wines. Some of these vines are older than 90 years. The irrigation of the vineyards is carried out through channels, ditches and furrows with water from the melting of the Andes Mountains.

All the wines are made with the highest technology. Stainless steel tanks with temperature control for fermentation, a climate controlled room for storing barrels ensure the ideal conditions for controlling the entire process. Once fractioned, the wines are stowed within the same winery for refining before going on the market.

Fluid and not very expressive at first, but when it opens it feels frank, somewhat vinous and with a pleasant ripeness of fruit. Good volume and a well-balanced finish between the character of the wine and the aging in French oak barrels.
