The bluish flagstone soils that cover the upper part of our Tolombón vineyard - as happens in some regions of the French Rhône where Garchana dominates - was what prompted us to plant this variety in the most stony area of our vineyard. A small production that today brings to your glass the first Garnacha from Salta in Argentina. Aged for 9 months in second and third use barrels; the oak is perfectly integrated and folded into the fruit.

Pale ruby colored and bright, it is the opposite of what many people think of as Salta reds, as it has little color and a lot of freshness. It has surprised many with its floral and very primary aromas, expressive, juicy, soft and very pleasant but with very good depth. It is funny, because in such a warm place, it feels more like a Garnacha from Gredos than an example from the Rhone. It is elegant and sophisticated, floral, fresh and with great balance, very fine tannins. There is even some of that herbal freshness that the variety can sometimes offer.

About Estancia Los Cardones

The first grape plantations date back to 2009. The most planted strain is Malbec, however you can also find lots with Petit Verdot, Garnacha, Cabernet and Marsanne.

The soil profile of Estancia Los Cardones is unique in the Calchaquí Valleys as it is a very shallow rocky soil with abundant chipped slate stone on the surface, full of disintegrated mica.

The climate is dry throughout the year, except for some occasional rains during the summer season. Warm days and cold nights with thermal amplitudes greater than 25 degrees.

The orientation of the vineyards, the intense sun and the stony soil favor the earliest maturity of the grapes, being the first estate to harvest in the entire Calchaquí Valleys.
